About Dr. Amy Jo Marcano-Reik, DPM, PhD
Dr. Marcano-Reik, a native of Northeast Ohio, graduated with her doctoral medical degree in Podiatry from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine where she served as the Director of Research for the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons. Prior to that, she earned her PhD and Masters degree in Neuroscience from the University of Iowa, and her undergraduate degrees in Neuroscience from Baldwin-Wallace College and Health Sciences and Pre-medical Studies from Cleveland State University. Dr. Marcano-Reik completed her medical training with University Hospitals and also completed a post-doctoral training experience in Bioethics and Genomics with Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. After her post-doc, she was appointed to Staff in the Center for Neurological and Behavioral Outcomes and focused on diagnostic and treatment developments for movement-based disorders.
Dr. Marcano-Reik is passionate about providing quality and personalized care for her patients in all aspects of Podiatry. She is actively engaged in research aimed at developing treatments and improved outcomes for all patients, and serves as a Federal Grant Reviewer for the United States Department of Health and Humans Services. Dr. Marcano-Reik is also committed to educating and training students and serves as an Adjunct Professor at Baldwin Wallace University in the Department of Neuroscience. She is involved in publishing and speaking engagements, including topics that address the intersection of podiatry and neurology (changes in gait and movement disorders) and is the author of the book, Brain and Spinal Cord Plasticity: An Interdisciplinary and Integrative Approach for Behavior, Cognition, and Health.
In her free time, Dr. Marcano-Reik enjoys spending time with her husband, Barry, and two children, Evan and Morgan, and loves to be active in the local community. She enjoys participating in her children’s Scouts activities (she is a Troop Leader for Olmsted Falls Girl Scouts), cheering for her children at their sporting events, and loves camping adventures with her family.
